Picturing Biblical Narrative: A Spring Semester mini-course with a focus on graphic novels

JS1111 Special Topics Mini-course 32675. 1 credit
Meets Thursdays 12:00 - 12:50 PM for 12 weeks
Begins January 28

Each week students will explore formal and narrative elements found in graphic novels and explore how pictures influence how we read a text. We'll examine how biblical Jewish texts are informed by pictures. We'll create our own visual narratives based on Jewish texts, and discuss some that have already been published. Though we don't have enough time to create a full-length graphic novel or comic book, we'll explore different ways to "picture" biblical narrative.
