This Spring, the Department of Religious Studies is partnering with the Department of Classics, the Jewish Studies Program, and the Medieval & Renaissance Studies Program to bring a series of speakers to Pitt to discuss divination in the ancient world. The first speaker will join us virtually, and the latter three speakers will visit Pittsburgh Campus.
Esther Eidinow (University of Bristol) will join us virtually on Thursday, January 29th at 12pm for her talk, "Identifying Concepts of 'Religious Atmosphere,' Modern and Ancient." Register for her talk here.
Mika Ahuvia (University of Washington) will visit on Thursday, February 12th. Her talk, "How Do You Talk to an Angel? Jewish Ritual-Magic Sources," will take place at 5pm, WPU540.
Laura Nasrallah (Yale University) will visit on Wednesday, March 18th. Her talk, "Interrupting Scriptures: Homer, the New Testament and Divination," will take place at 5pm, LAW113.
Nathan Leach (Texas State University) will visit on Thursday, April 19th. His talk, "Mystifying Oracles? Blended Divination and Mysteries in the Roman Imperial Period," will take place at 5pm, LAW229 (Alcoa Room).
